The Curtain London

In the heart of Shoreditch

The Curtain Hotel in the heart of Shoreditch, London´s most creative district, has sneaker cleaning service, the waiters are dressed in blue denim from Carhartt, there is live jazz, soul and even gospel music in the Red Rooster restaurant in the basement, it´s straight out of Harlem. The Curtain is a destination in itself and another good reason to visit London.

  • LOCATION

The slogan of The Curtain is “be curious - be east” and that´s where The Curtain is, in Shoreditch, East London. The location is just off the main roads so it´s quit and still very easy access to everything. It´s a short walk to the areas best restaurants and bars and Old Street underground station is close to the hotel. The neighborhood is buzzing and high on energy, this is the “new” area to be in, believe me, your London experience will be totally new.

  • CHARME & STYLE

The style of The Curtain is warehouse-industrial-chick, it´s a little New York Meatpacking-ish. Maybe no coincidence since the hotelier is from New York. Fun elements and rockstar posters, sneaker-cleaning service and all the staff wear customized Carhartt uniforms - blue denim for the waiters and beige boiler-suits for housekeeping.

  • ROOMS

Huge bathrooms, almost as big as the rooms, and they are nice and fresh with white marble and rainfall showers. The steam room in the shower was an added bonus.

The rooms are dark and masculine with hardwood floors and brick walls. The minibar comes with a make your own dry martini kit and the bed was very comfortable.

  • SERVICE & FACILITIES

Not what you expect in London, but on the roof there is a swimming/splash pool and sun beds. The pool is heated so you can actually go swimming off season.

  • FOOD & DRINKS

The Curtain Hotel´s main attraction when it comes to restaurants is the Red Rooster, the only outpost of the Harlem-based restaurant with the same name. In charge of the Red Roosters is the New York superstar chef, the sweede Marcus Samuelsson. Food was great and so was the live music, unfortunately for my blog, my pictures turned out to be too dark.

Another restaurant at The Curtain is Samuelsson´s all-day taqueria Tienda. This laid-back taco restaurant has sculls on the walls, bandanas as lamps and margarita slush topped with edible glitter.

The rooftop bar and restaurant Lido serves excellent breakfast with fresh fruit, cereal and full English and food and drinks through out the day. If the weather allows it you may sit outside, but even inside you get that garden feeling.
