LX Factory Lisbon

LX Factory where creativity comes to play

LX Factory in the Alcántara area, tucked away under the 25th of April Bridge, used to be one of the most important factory complexes in Lisbon dating back to the year of 1846 when a thread and fabric company moved from Lisbon to Alcántara. The area has been abandoned for years but is now reborn like a Phenix Bird in the form of LXFACTORY the place where creativity comes to play.

In 2008, this former industrial site was transformed into restaurants, galleries, studios and art-and creative shops. Every Sunday an open air market is held. All other days of the week, the small shops selling everything you didn't know you needed, are open.

You will find a spectacular bookstore that even has its own bar, Ler Devagar, meaning read slowly. Ler Devagar is listed as one of the 10 most beautiful bookstores in the world by the NY Times and this is where you should slow down and take you time to enjoy books combined with excellent coffee or a glass of wine.

What about buying what Portugal is famous for, tinned sardines, here in a beautiful wrapping to bring back home.

LXFACTORY is colorful and full of surprises. I do think a visit will boost your own creativity, it boosted mine!

The bee is one in a series of street art, made out of garbage to draw attention to the problem of waste production, materials that are not reused, pollution and its effect on the planet. The title is “Let´s bring nature back to the city” and it´s created by Bordalo II, a young Lisbon artist.

There are several good restaurants and bars to have a break. I chose to eat outside in the sun at Cantina, once the cantina of a textile factory, that´s where I have my background from.

LXFACTORY is a cool hangout zone for a few hours and a huge contrast to other areas in the city.
