Hotels Cartagena de Indias

Sofitel Legend Santa Clara and Bastion Luxury Hotel Cartagena de Indias

Colombia´s colonial Caribbean city, with a tropical climate, is so beautiful and colorful that you hardly want to spend any time sleeping. The city is full of life day and night and believe me, you don´t want to miss out on anything. If you really want to or need to sleep in this amazing city there are plenty of great options for sleeping. I tested two great hotels in Cartagena and loved both of them so much that I would like to return.

If you are traveling on a shoestring, budget hotels and hostels can be found in Getsemani. Getsemani is the newest and most modern area of Cartagena. In another area of Cartagena, Bocagrande you will find a huge sandy beach and a large number of hotels of all prices including the big international hotel chains.

My advice is, forget about the other areas, stay in the old city which is the walled city. I recommend you to stay in the ciudad amurallad, since the walled city is what makes Cartagena unique, rather than its beaches.

In the walled city you will find amazing hotels and many smaller colonial houses turned into smaller design hotels and great hostels.

where to sleep in Cartagena

Sofitel Legend Santa Clara is Cartagenas most famous and prestigious hotel, in the heart of the walled city at Plaza San Diego. Sofitel Legend Santa Clara is a beautiful historic hotel. The building was originally established as a convent in 1621 and was renovated in the 90s.

The rooms are spacious and light, ours was facing the pool, meals are taken in the wonderful courtyard and the pool area is the best and largest in the walled city. We spent two nights here in pure luxury. A great hotel to relax and unwind after a long trip.

Bastion Luxury Hotel is a colonial house from the 16th century in the walled city, turned into the most charming and modern, value for money designhotel.

The rooms are big, we went from two to three travelers and got a room with two big beds at the Bastion that is why we moved from Sofitel. The rooftop terrace is beautiful, with a good bar, green plants, a very nice pool and 360-degrees view, the rooftop terrace was great day and night.

For breakfast the selection was huge with all sorts of exotic fruits, berries, your choice of eggs, hot foot, typical Colombian dishes and cakes. The food at the terrace was excellent and we had many tasty meals there. The best with the hotel was the amazing service, lots of help and advice for trips and restaurants and the guys in the bar made us feel good and laugh.

HOTEL CARTAGENA

Cartagena is so exciting and wonderful that you hardly want to spend your time there sleeping. I am sure there are plenty of great hotels but I was extremely happy with my two choices and I know that you will love the too.
