A Cevicheria in Lisbon Portugal

If you’re wondering where to eat in Lisbon and craving a unique culinary experience, A Cevicheria in Lisbon, Portugalshould be on your list. Known for its stylish decor, featuring blue and white floor tiles and a giant octopus installation above the bar, A Cevicheria is one of Lisbon’s coolest restaurants, perfect for both lunch and dinner. The restaurant, helmed by local celebrity Chef Kiko, offers a blend of traditional Peruvian flavors with Portuguese ingredients, resulting in a menu that’s both innovative and deeply rooted in local tastes—making it a top spot for great food in Lisbon.

Ceviche, the restaurant’s signature dish, has deep roots in Latin American cuisine, particularly in coastal regions. This dish features fresh, raw fish or seafood marinated in citrus juices like lime or lemon. The acidity of the citrus gently "cooks" the fish, resulting in a firm texture and opaque appearance. Recently, ceviche has become popular in Portugal, especially in cosmopolitan hubs like Lisbon, where the culinary scene thrives on diversity. Portuguese chefs have embraced ceviche with enthusiasm, adapting it to local palates while honoring its Latin American heritage.

In Lisbon, ceviche restaurants like A Cevicheria reflect the city’s openness to global culinary trends. These establishments frequently offer traditional Latin American ceviche with a Portuguese twist, often using local fish like bacalhau (salted cod), dourada (sea bream), and polvo (octopus). You may also encounter ceviche dishes with flavors from Portugal’s historical spice trade, such as coriander, piri-piri peppers, and citrus fruits from the Algarve. This fusion of Portuguese ingredients with the traditional ceviche method speaks to Lisbon’s rich seafood legacy and its embrace of new culinary experiences.

A Cevicheria doesn´t take reservations but there is a window at the front of the restaurant where one can order drinks from the street when standing in line. I haven´t had as good pisco since my visit to Chile one year ago!

As the name indicates this is the place for ceviche, but they also have options on the menu if raw fish is not top of mind. Do I have a spider in my spoon? No it´s the octopus looking in the “mirror”!

A Cevicheria is small more like a bistro. Seating is possible at the bar and this makes a great view of the making of the food. The atmosphere and service was great and a visit here is guaranteed to put you in a good mood. It´s Peru with a twist - I will come again!

Friendly staff made me feel very welcome when I was dining at A Cevicheria in Lisbon alone.
